Rockbox playing back itunes imported mp3s
« on: May 08, 2009, 06:52:15 PM »
Hi. I have an odd problem.

Ive never really used itunes, but I put some onto the nano with it while in Apple firmware mode to have a quick go. All ok.

Boot into rockbox and play some mp3's that were drag and dropped with explorer. However, the next album that was due to play in that folder, it starts playing the itunes mp3s which happens to be alphabetically next! I thought rockbox only plays whats in the folder. After the itunes tracks have finished, it'll goto the next album in the normal rockbox folder. I dont use the database. I just play stuff sequentially.

The itunes mp3s are in H:\iPod_Control\Music and each track being in an individual folder and my rockbox tunes are all in H:\Music

Shouldnt rockbox ignore the ipod_control folder? Am I missing something?  ???

It sounds like you have Auto-Change Directory set to "Yes".  What is your Show Files setting?

If Show Files is set to "All" then Rockbox should continue to the next folder in your file tree, regardless of whether or not it's a hidden folder.  If this is the case for you then I believe you can skip the hidden iPod_Control folder by setting Show Files to something other than  "All".

I tried changing the Show Files to something other than All and it still plays the itunes files. Supported and Music do the same thing.

Auto-change Directory is set to Yes.

I dont understand how it can play an album then jump back 2 folders then forward 3 folders to the itunes ones, then back again.  ???

This is what its doing:

H:\Music\AlbumA\1.mp3 - Plays First
H:\iPod_Control\Music\F00(Random folder name)\1.mp3 - Plays Second
The album in the tags of this is AlbumB
H:\Music\AlbumC\1.mp3 - Plays Third

I would have expected it to play AlbumC after playing AlbumA, not AlbumB as AlbumC is next in the Music folder.

How exactly are you playing the songs?

Show Files shouldn't affect what files it has access to in regard to auto changing.

I just hit the select or play button on the first mp3 in an album folder and let it play through them all, itll then goto the next folder and continue.

Do you hit "Select" or "Play"? They work differently.

Also, your description layout said it plays a different folder after each song. Please, be as clear as possible about _exactly_ what you do, and _exactly_ what happens.

Sorry I meant I press the Select button not play. Play just resumes.

I dont know how much clearer I can make all this. When all the tracks have played in a folder, I want it to play the next folder like so:

H:\Music\AlbumA\1.mp3 - Click Select on this file and itll play trk after trk.
H:\Music\AlbumA\2.mp3
H:\Music\AlbumA\3.mp3
H:\Music\AlbumA\4.mp3

Then it should continue to the next album folder under H:\Music...

H:\Music\AlbumC\1.mp3
H:\Music\AlbumC\2.mp3
H:\Music\AlbumC\3.mp3
H:\Music\AlbumC\4.mp3

But instead of going to AlbumC, it jumps to the itunes folder to play AlbumB, when those have finished playing, itll go back to the Music folder and play Album C.

Hope thats clearer.  :-\

Auto-Change Directory set to "Yes" means it's not set to "Random", right?

Auto-Change Directory is set to Yes, not Random. Doesnt explain why it should even be reading the itunes folder though.

Ah, sorry, for some reason I thought they were separate options.

Does the pattern continue? Is the fourth folder something unexpected again, or is it actually the third folder in Music?
