My gigabeat X30 bricked after using the dummy GBSYSTEM files, help!
(1/1)
keegan:
Yesterday I changed the original GBSYSTEM files in my gigabeat X30 with the dummy GBSYSTEM files
provided at "http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/GigabeatFXPort". However, I don't know what I thought at that time, I just want to try if the X30 can be booted by only with this dummy system file folder. Therefore I deleted the .rockbox folder and reboot the X30.
The disaster then came. I inserted the USB cable before turning on the Gigabeat, then I seemed enter "Bootloader USB Mode", because this sentence showed on the screen of my gigabeat. But my
computer couldn't recognize my gigabeat because there was no new drive letter shown in my computer. Then I plugged out the USB cable, then my gigabeat seemed to boot with rockbox...
Oh, no!!! Since I deleted the .rockbox folder, so the screen showed "File not found" and then the screen turned to be dark.
What should I do now? It seems that I might be able to enter "Bootloader USB Mode" with this
dummy GBSYSTEM, but why my computer cannot recognize my gigabeat successfully? Now I can do nothing about it even if I know how to recover the system, because I just cannot copy the original GBSYSTEM files to the hard disk in my gigabeat!
I also tried to open my gigabeat to perform the recovery operation, however, I still cannot open the
back cover after I removed all the screws. There is a web link which shows how to open the back cover, however, I just cannot open that webpage.
Could anyone help me out of this nightmare? Thanks in advance.

I've never had an X series, but both the F and the S are opened by removing the screws and then sliding the panels down.
Have you tried bootloader usb mode more than once?
If there's no drive letter, that could mean that the drive is detected but the partition table is corrupt. Have you checked that?

First you should reboot your computer or use another usb port and try to connect the gigabeat again.
It is a long since I open my X, but if I remember, you have to slide the back case in direction of the connector.
It is not easy to put it back because of the button on the side.
