ipod video 30gb: error message, computer won't recognize and ipod won't reboot

(1/1)

camjam:
I think this may just be a hardware problem with my ipod, in that it cant do a hard reset for some reason, but here goes:

after trying to install rockbox on my 30gb ipod video, upon turning it on i get the message:

Rockbox boot loader
Version: 3.0
IPOD version: 0x000B0011
TOSHIBA MK3008GAL
Partition 1: 0x0B 28521 MB
Loading Rockbox...
Error!
Can't load rockbox.ipod:
File not found
Hold MENU+SELECT to reboot
then SELECT+PLAY for disk mode

i know this isnt a terribly uncommon error message, but holding those buttons does nothing, nor will the ipod turn off or respond to anything... admittedly, my ipod often had trouble resetting prior to installing rockbox, so this may not have anything to do with the software. the ipod doesnt show up in my computer, rockbox, or itunes.

i guess what im asking is, are there any suggestions on how to reset it, whether on the device itself (which isnt responding to anything) or through the computer, even though its not being recognized?
i dont have any files on here that i care about, so that isnt an issue, and i wouldnt mind wiping the os altogether - anything to get it working again, even with the ipod firmware.

ps. i have tried letting it charge all the way up and down, with no success or change.

thanks!

Did you use rbutil?  That message shouldn't happen with the autoinstaller, but basically it means you have the bootloader but no rockbox installed.

Regarding the instructions, unless the buttons on your ipod are broken, it'll work.  You may have to hold them for quite a long time though.
