I find the current key-mapping for the virtual keyboard at least on the e200 to be very unfriendly. With the current setup I easily delete a character because I want to click the menu button for down (to get to the next row) but it deletes a character. Switching between the scroll wheel and the fast forward and rewind buttons for navigation is not efficient. The 4 fixed buttons around the scroll wheel make you want to use that to navigate the virtual keyboard but it is not the cases, very counter intuitive.
I Would like to change it so that when I use the scroll wheel instead of it scrolling vertically, it can scroll horizontally so that it raps around to the next line, therefore eliminating the need for left - right key mappings. then the 4 fixed buttons can be for delete (backspace), save, exit without save and move back with out deleting. I think this way would be much easier.
Now I have some light scripting (vbs ,dos, and java) knowledge and want to know is this an easy task for a beginner willing to take a stab at it or do the programmers think this is a worthwhile change for scroll wheel based players? I know the virtual keyboard is universal based on my searches, but maybe there is a better way then I described but I think the current one needs to be looked into.
This is an attempt to make rockbox better, I am not bashing rockbox. Having been running it for years on my h100 and now the sansa and love it.
