RockBox database not seeing Ogg metadata (artist/album/song title)

Any news/results?  I'm not sure how to apply patches (but will learn if it will help...)

I've discovered that Rockbox likes some of my ogg files, but not others:

* Springsteen shows up in the RockBox database: http://www.yonkitime.com/sounds/Badlands.ogg
* Buffalo Tom (the one you looked at before) does not: http://www.yonkitime.com/sounds/Staples.ogg
What software are you using to get such detailed info on the tag structures?

Perhaps some of this is related to this other issue http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=21695.0 I have regarding extremely long database filling and more files in database than I have on the ipod.  The media center formatted ogg files seem to be the common denominator.

--- Quote ---Side note: Interesting to see that Media Center supports ReplayGain, but in a non-standard, incomplete way... ;)

I know!  I've been trying to get the Jriver guys to make their ReplayGain compatible with Rockbox for YEARS, but it hasn't happened yet.  They're usually pretty responsive, but in this case there appears to be some NIH attitude.  Here's a thread I started two years ago: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=38695.0

If you could be more specific about what they need to do to be more compatible, I'll dive back in.  I really like MC a lot, but this needs to be fixed.  I just don't know enough about replaygain tagging and tags in general to be authoritative.  Is there really a "standard" for replaygain tags?  The MC guys seem to be arguing that there's not...

Thanks Lear,
Fred

I committed the patch a few days ago, so just grab the latest build.

The Springsteen track shouldn't show up, really... :) It's no different from Buffalo Tom in that regard.

MP3Tag can show many details, though I mainly used hex dumps here...

I doubt it. This just causes Rockbox to not find any tags in the file.

The first post by Alex B in the jriver thread is clear on what Rockbox needs. There is no formal standard for Vorbis Replaygain tags, but the one I've seen most is the one written by VorbisGain.

I tried several times on Monday, but I could never get the database to build (it would start but when I'd check back after an hour or so it was like it had never started).  Last night I tried Tuesday's build and...it works!  Thanks a bunch!

And yet...  I suppose I could have made a mistake, but I'm pretty sure the Springsteen oggs were in the database...  It doesn't matter now...

Thanks.  I opened a new thread on the jriver site.  One guy responded "yeah, I want that too", but nothing from the developers.  I don't know why this is such an issue (or non-issue) for them...

Thanks again Lear!
