Hearing audio while FF or REW

Hi all.  Using a Sansa e270.  While playing a selection I hold
down the >> or << button to move through the selection
but can't hear where I'm going, only silence until I let go
of the button, so I don't know where I am and have to guess
when to let go of the button.  Can I change this behavior?

this has been a request since i can remember ever since the h1x0 port and maybe before that.

The best way to see it happen is to actually work on it. As long as the people who want it just keep saying "it'd be great if someone else did this for us" rather than "I think I'll start learning what's necessary to do this" it's pretty unlikely to happen.
