Rockbox Utility - Check for update

<< < (2/2)

very tiny script in php , but can be written in any script language that handle regex.
1. Grab http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/RockboxUtility page
2. Use RegEx to find latest RButility version.

Other idea: place ex. rbutility.txt file on server with latest version inside, that can be updated after compiling. phpBB do the same for checking updates.

That's of course a way to do this, but I'd prefer to not check the wiki page for updates. There are mainly two reasons for this:
1. It's a wiki page.
2. Different binaries can have different releases. For example, in the past we had the AMD64 and OS X builds lagging behind several times. If Rockbox Utility notifies a user with a system the build is lagging behind about a new version but no release has been done, well ...

That's also an option (and a better one than checking the wiki), though I'd like to avoid having another file on the webserver. Which I've already stated.

To sum this up, there's no need for ideas -- I have various ideas myself and thought about them. There are two problems:
1. I haven't figured which idea I like best and want to implement.
2. Time.

If anyone is creating a patch and posting it to Flyspray it definitely will get considered, but simply talking about it and putting ideas in the forums doesn't make it magically appear. And there are other issues with Rockbox Utility I consider more important (but I've said that before).
