iPod mini 1G, error when installing bootlader.
« on: April 26, 2009, 09:08:46 AM »
So I got this iPod min 1G from my friend and he had iPod linux/normal apple firmware with a bootloader on it with no problem.

All I did was hook it up with iTunes and do a restore to get his music off and because I wanted rockbox not iPod linux.(although they are pretty similar...)

Anywho when I download the autoinstaller it detects my iPod and all that.

FAIL!
I can try the just install bootloader and nothing works, fine I will try it the hard way. (the only other way I know of...)

lol, no.

So what do I do?  :-\

tl;dr
-Had iPod linux/appleOS/bootloader (worked fine but wanted rockbox)
-Restored useing iTunes
-Bootloader will not instal

EDIT:
Yes I tried with it set in disc mode.

Did you run either RBUtil or iPodpatcher with administrative rights? That's needed for raw disk access.

Yea only one account on my computer.  :P

EDIT: My friend suggested I format the iPod and install rockbox before I restore it again.

Worked great!

Now how do I put music on it?  :-\

Both Rockbox Utility and ipodpatcher should give a warning if the permissions aren't sufficient (at least Rockbox Utility, not 100% sure if an updated ipodpatcher was released after changing that).

Regardless I'm wondering why epicelite has to hide his username from the screenshots ...

Cus it is my real name.  ;D

Also it stopped working again, I formatted the HDD. Installed rockbox+bootlader and it said everything went fine.

Then I played with rockbox for a bit and turned the iPod off.

Turned it back on and!?

APPLE OS!?

WTF? It doesn't even have the option to choose what OS I want and I had formatted the HDD so how did apple OS get back on there!?

You have a problem with your real name? ;-)

How did you format the hard drive? Did you restore the Ipod using Itunes? Do you have Itunes running or another 3rd party program that accesses the Ipod?

Well it was my FULL name and I don't want to tell that to random internet pplz lol.

I formatted it to FAT32, uninstalled iTurnes and put rockbox on it.
Actually I just turned it off and on again, and it went to rockbox?

But WTF? Also it has crashed on me 2 times now, I think the HDD is getting to hot? I am getting a CF card in a few days.  ;D I was playing one of the games both times so IDK maybe just the game.
How do I play 1 player pong?

Anyway I did not turn on iTunes after I formatted the thing and have no other programs that would do that.
I figured out how to use the music thing too. =3
So whats up with that? Because I was holding the play/pause button?

How do I rip a CD to FLAC with winamp I downloaded the FLAC driver thingamajig.

Please follow our forum guidelines and use real words. "idk", "pplz" and such are not real words and not wanted here.

That's a question for another forum.
