f20 - alternates between system error 2 and 10.
« on: April 25, 2009, 02:13:17 PM »
hey gang,
having a pretty major problem here.

my player went dark a few weeks ago.  been trying to install either rockbox or the original firmware but every time i format and go through recovery i get either error 2 (not twenty) or 10.  i can see the drive fine in windows explorer but cant seem to get the bootloader to kick in.  i've also been getting spindown errors when i try to safely disconnect the hard drive.

was originally running  gigabeat firmware 2.0 if that helps.

hopefully i can salvage it.  thanks for any help.

Maybe these instructions can be useful: http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/GigabeatFXPort#Gigabeat_Recovery_Procedures

alas, it does not.  i've got it to stick steady to 10 but at this point i can't get past it.

also, the usb doesnt work without the ac adapter plugged in, dunno if that's hampering progress.

also there appears to be a hidden "system volume information" folder that i'm unable to delete.

I find that the F series bootloader is somewhat picky about the partitioning and formatting of the drive.

I recommend that you use the free 'fat32format' tool (google it) on a windows machine to reformat the partition, and then dump on a valid GBSYSTEM folder.

fwiw that could easily be the 'minimal' files + rockbox bootloader. In which case you may as well dump on the .rockbox directory while you're at it.

If THAT doesn't work, nuke the MBR and try again.
