is there any way to not write a recording
« on: November 03, 2007, 01:24:09 PM »
I couldn't find it in the manual, or with a search here..  is there a way that I can discard the recording after I finish recording?  Something to the effect of the OF's "keep recording?" functionality.  It's a very nice feature as I record my piano practices, but I don't play things perfectly each time, so it's nice to able to discard the recording without even having it written.  Very specific feature I know, but since it seems simple, I was wondering if it's been implemented.

Can't you just delete the file?  Go to it on the filebrowser, long select on it then chose delete.  Sure, it is a couple more button presses but perfectly doable, and all a choice like you are suggesting would be to delete it for you, with the disadvantage of complicating the code + increasing code size for not much benefit that I can see.  Unless you record for less than the buffer size it will always unavoidably be written during recording.

As a note, not only do you not say which OF, but what the OF does is irelevent to us.  If it is a good idea then we will of course welcome its inclusion.

oops, sorry about not being clear.  the OF I'm talking about is sansa e260.  At the end of the recording, it just asks you if you want to keep the recording or not.  I guess it's only useful when you got more that you don't need, than the ones you want to keep.  Anyway, I see that the feature doesn't exist.  No problem.  This is a very specific feature that probably won't help most people.

Due to the limited buffer there is little difference between what you are suggesting and manually deleting the file afterwards. We have to write the file anyway, your request would be to remove that file again on request.

i don't think its entirely a necessary feature, the only time i find myself not keeping recordings is when the only reason its recording in the first place is because i accidentally pressed the record button while reaching into my pocket.
