initialization problems

(1/1)

pr621:
i just installed the newest build of rockbox on to my sansa c250 and everytime i try to initialize the database, it will get to a number between 750 and 840 and just stop/ freeze, i pressed back to stop but everytime i try to start it again its still at the same number and wont do anything.

Chronon:
Sometimes certain metadata can cause problems for Rockbox's parser.  You could see if the database will build with a subset of your files.  The best thing would be to do a binary search to try to find offending files.

pr621:
how do i go about doing this?

Chronon:
You basically want to cut the number of files that you're testing in half on each iteration and try to isolate which files are causing problems.  There's a good (if slightly technical) article on Wikipedia about it (called Binary search algorithm).

If you have a lot of full albums then this might be a good basis for doing the search too (i.e. remove half of the albums each time) because it's likely that all of the files on a given album have whatever quirk is causing problems for Rockbox.

AlexP:
If you discover what is causing the problem, it'd be good to let us know so we can see if it is a problem in Rockbox that needs fixing.
