After compiling I get version "unknown-090414"
« on: April 14, 2009, 06:17:45 PM »
Compiled on Vista x64 inside Cygwin.  Compile went great, install went great, works great.

But the version is reported as "unknown-090414"

I built from r20707 sources, so why does it show "unknown?"  How can I add the version information?

Thanks.

Did you check out the code from SVN or download a tar?

I downloaded the 7z from http://build.rockbox.org/

Everytime I tried to get the SVN, it would freeze at tools/release/README.  It did that both in Debian GNU/Linux as well as in Windows with QSvn.

I download OpenWrt and Miranda IM from SVN all the time with no problems, so I don't know why svn would freeze while downloading Rockbox.

Why will compiling from a tarball (or the 7z files) not give me the revision number?

My guess is that it needs SVN in order to get the revision number.

Well, thanks for the help. :)  I'll see if I can get SVN going

EDIT: Yep, downloaded from SVN did it.  Got a version number now. :D Thanks.

It does. See the script tools/version.sh

I'm usually on a slow connection, so getting a compressed tarball is easier for me. I have no option but to add it manually. Could you tell me what file stores the revision number, so I can manually edit it?

I suck at shell scripts and therefore "version.sh" did not help me at all.

You only need to download all of SVN once. After that, updates will be much smaller than the tarball will be.

Why do you need a displayed version number for your own personal builds? We'll still be asking you to use a build provided by us if you're going to be issuing a bug report.
