Installation / Removal > Rockbox Utility
Cannot Install Successfully on 5G 80gb Ipod
JackTheImprovident:
I have tried to install rockbox on my 80gb ipod both with the installer utility and manually and I keep getting the message of "error! can't load rockbox.ipod: file not found". I've followed the instructions very closely, including reformatting it for windows (I use a mac) and it just doesn't work. I know that rockbox doesn't work on the 80 gb classic but it should for the 5th generation 80 gig video. If this is old news and other people have raised and addressed this I apologize, but any help would be appreciated as I would very much enjoy being able to use rockbox on my ipod.
Chronon:
It seems you have successfully installed the bootloader but it isn't finding the Rockbox binary. Does /.rockbox/rockbox.ipod exist on your iPod?
bluebrother:
Have you used Rockbox Utility on a Mac or Windows machine?
JackTheImprovident:
I'm using the utility on a mac. the .rockbox folder does seem to appear in the ipod at least when I tried to install it manually. Either way bootloader doesn't seem to able to find it when I disconnect it.
froggyman:
well the reason why the ".rockbbox" folder is not showing up is because in UNIX like systems folders with a "." in front of them will become hidden folders. But dont remove the ".", simply enable the viewing of hidden folders
as for the second part i am unsure why that would be. If you have access to a Windows computer, you might try installing it on there.
