On my Archos V2 Recorder, when Rockbox turns "off" the backlight, either the backlight turns off instantly or it brightens instantly and then slowly fades to off.
A few months ago I created a
patch which always turns off the backlight instantly. Is this wanted? I like it because I feel the unpredictability is undesirable, and while fades are good, the initial brightening makes this one not-so-good.
The V1 Recorder has exactly the same backlight code. Does it have the same issue?
Technical explanation: When the backlight is "on" it is actually flashing about 32 thousand times a second. Because it is off part of the time, it is less bright than if it was on constantly. When Rockbox turns the backlight "off" what happens depends on the current part of the flashing cycle. If the backlight was off, it stays off. If it was on, it stays on and slowly fades as electrical charge drains away somewhere. It is brighter than normal at the start of the fade because that's a constant on, which is brighter than a pulsed on.
