iPod Nano 3rd gen broken center button

My IPod Nano 3rd gen's center button is completely unresponsive.

I haven't tried Rockbox yet and was wandering if I could assign all of the commands associated with the center button to a different button.

I just wanted to know if it was possible or if it has already been done before I waste my time installing Rockbox

Rockbox doesn't even work on the 3rd gen nano.
