mp4 videos wont play on ipod video 5g

No mp4 videos will play on my ipod video 5g, I have tried various different mp4's which all work fine on pc so I know its not a problem with the file.

I would appreciate if someone could help me to solve this problem.

the problem im having now is that i put a few mpeg and avi files on it to test them but they aren't showing up in the folder i put them in when i go to files/videos...its showing it as being empty which it isnt.

No.  The page that BigBambi linked for you will tell you that the plugin only plays MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 streams.

So if you convert them to MPEG-1 / MPEG-2 then they'll play - but you need to convert them first.

I just picked up my 5th Gen 30GB Ipod Video at a local pawn shop for 40 dollars.  I loaded Rockbox and have been able to dual boot so far with 1.3 Apple Firmware and rockbox, and they share the database.  After "showing all hidden files", I noticed I would have to take a 430MB(MP4) and convert to a 1.6GB(MPEGI,MPEGII).  With the stock HDD at the moment I did not want to loose that much space to one video.  So for now the dual boot, will let me watch movies with the Apple FW, and enjoy games, themes, customizable EVERYTHING with Rockbox.

Is there now way to just add a couple codecs' to the mpeg player?? Just wondering, THANKS!

Given the extremely slow CPU on the Video, its not going to be feasible to achieve higher quality per compression than MPEG2, which is pretty close to ideal for such an old processor.  But yes, you could add support for other similarly low CPU codecs.

I feel compelled to point out that Apple is able to do this due to the Video's video decoder hardware, which Rockbox ignores completely.
