Trash wont empty

Im using a rockboxed ipod 5th gen 30gb in linux. After i had first rockboxed it and deleted everything i added with Itunes then replaced them using drag and drop, i noticed everything was showing up 4 or 5 times in my Database. i figured out this was because the .Trash-500 folder in the root of my ipod was not emptying. no matter what i do, it wont empty. when i try to delete it, the ipod just reverts to a read only file system. ive tried both deleting it in evolution and doing sudo rmdir .Trash-500. both give the same error

That means the filesystem is corrupted. Try fsck.vfat

thank you sir, autorepaired the filesystem and now everything is fine 
not to self: remember to unmount next time
