issues with 3rd gen
jkm199:
alright. my father bought my step sisters some 3rd gen ipods off of ebay. 8gig.
after looking them over they seem to be real ipods that someone loaded with some very very poor firmware. so he asked me to fix their playback issue and i thought the best way would be to install rockbox.
i read the installation instructions both automatic and manual. and neither work. the automatic cant detect that theres an ipod(even though it installed rockbox.) to install the bootloader.
the manual bootloader installation program that was linked in the manual kept giving me the "no ipods found, aborting" error
does anyone know of a way i can install the bootloader completely manually? do i need to code or edit existing code myself?
saratoga:
Rockbox doesn't work on the 3rd Gen Nano, hence you cannot install it.
Llorean:
I don't see mention of his iPod being a Nano, so I'm unlocking this.
Is it a Nano or an old style black and white 3rd Gen? If the latter, you simple need to restore it with iPods or follow the manual restore instructions in the wiki before you can install Rockbox.
yapper:
He mentions it is 8 gig so it's likely to be a nano, not an old 3rd gen.
Llorean:
Likely, but there's no way to install third party firmware on 3rd Gen Nanos as far as we know yet, so it's either a knockoff, or it's possible someone's done something like happens regularly here and put a CF card in it. It could pretty easily be running iPodLinux with a CF card or similar.
