Rockbox Questions

(1/1)

motionman95:
If this is the wrong place to post this, sorry.  :D Anyway, after losing my source code for a plugin I was working on, and after the helpful suggestions given, here are my questions:

* 1.) If using SVN will allow me to keep my work online, (so that I don't lose it) what do I do if, say, I've modified something in main.c, and when I want to update my SVN source, I lose those changes?
* 2.) Will I also lose my plugin source when updating my SVN source?
* 3.) I heard that it is a good idea to always use the "Current Build" instead of releases. In that case, when I'm updating my player, how to I keep my settings? (Theme, WPS, background, screen timeout, etc...)
If I'm asking to many questions, sorry! Thanks in advance!

Llorean:
1) SVN doesn't allow you to keep your work online. Whether or not you keep your work "online" is completely independent of using SVN. SVN allows you to use version controlled source. This forum is not the proper place to learn what SVN is and how it works, please simply make use of Google.

2) No. Learning about how to use SVN and what it does will also explain this.

3) You shouldn't lose anything when updating your player. If you're losing those, you're doing it wrong.

motionman95:
In the case of number 3, what is the proper way to do it?

And in case of number 1, I quote your other post:

--- Quote ---Use SVN. You can update source code and preserve your changes.

--- End quote ---

What did you mean, then?

Llorean:
In the case of number 3, you can overwrite the existing build's files without deleting any added files (.cfg, and themes).

In the case of #1, please, just spend some time learning about how SVN works and how to check out a local copy. As I said, this forum isn't the right place.

GodEater:
Just in case it's not clear - what we refer to as "svn" is a tool called "Subversion". Searching for that rather than just "svn" in google might be more instructive.
