I didn't mean to imply attribution was unimportant. I've updated the theme details and unhidden it now.

Neither did I mean you were implying that, the message was for theme uploaders. Thanks again!

i wanted to upload a theme with a psd folder in the same zip, but that was not accepted by the uploader. could you change that? or, as suggested in this thread, could we create a WpsResources page where i can put these files?
PS: RButilqt tells me "No themes available for the selected target", although i could install rockbox on the device (Gigabeat F20).

And rightly so. This is not in any way part of the theme

That seems like a fine idea. It's a wiki - feel free to create it.

Yes, unfortunately a bug crept in after fixing another more serious flaw in the theme site. A new Rockbox Utility release will unfortunately be necessary.

I have to disagree. see, i thought about uploading my blackglass remixes and because the new theme site did not accept my previous zip file containing multiple themes, i decided to only upload the template of the blackglass theme, since each derivation of it i created just had different backgrounds and different colour setups, but the code and the icon alignment were all the same. so i attached the psd, for people to create their "own wps" without having to know the coding part. here, take a look. nobody would like to have this without a background... so the psd is an essential part of this theme. Basically this idea of letting people create their own background without the coding skills and still have a nice looking theme was what made me create this theme in the first place. it was actually the first wps i ever did and also the reason why i learned how to read wps code.
So basically i want to know if there could be an exception only for this theme, or if it is possible to integrate links in the wps description.

The theme site is to make it easier for people to download and immediately use themes. Half the people using the site will never visit it directly, and the theme will never really reside on their computer.

A psd file would be completely useless.

If you want to have "resources for creating themes" available somewhere to share with people, setting up a separate location for this might make sense, but it's not what the actual theme site is about.

The "theme" is the part that can actually be used on the player, and that's what's to be available through the theme site.

because the new theme site did not accept my previous zip file containing multiple themes
This is also by design - not just because I'm lazy.

One download = one theme. If the user wants colour variations, he can download those as he chooses.

I never read about the purpose of the new theme site, so i think it's good we discuss it here. i understood that the new theme site shall replace the old wps gallery.

Simply put: you want to dumb it down so you can reach a bigger audience? That's fine, but then i think the gallery must stay online.
The gallery is a place where it's easy to upload the sources to a theme, uploading multiple themes contained in one zip isn't a hassle either. But most importantly, it is no problem to update themes in the gallery. How do we update themes on the new site?

I never suggested this had anything to do with laziness. I just question the "one theme At a a time" approach. I think it would be best to have two options for theme creators:
  • they could choose to upload one theme at a time.
  • Or they could choose to upload a theme collection. this collection would have to have
    • a screenshot for each theme inside
    • separated zips
    • and one zip which contains all of them
    • this is exactly what i did with my rhombic theme
The user would then see the wps pack in the themes list in rbutil which he could either expand or download as a whole.

I'm not sure why the gallery "must" stay online. Having themes in multiple locations is just going to make it *harder* for people to find usable themes.

A separate location that is only theme sources (psd files, etc) makes sense, but theme creation data shouldn't be intermixed with themes anyway.

As for theme collections - if you have multiple versions of a theme, why not just upload each of them? Why does it need to be a "collection"?

I think it's more convenient for the user to have theme collections. if he/she likes the basic design of the theme, why obligate him to download each variation of this theme separately?

PS: Why do i have to re-verify my e-mail anytime i upload a theme? can't this info be stored somewhere? it's really annoying.

As regarding why the gallery must stay online you did not answer my question: how are themes being updated on the new site? will rasher (or another theme site admin for that matter) have to update each theme, when the wps syntax is changed himself?

It's going to take the same amount of time to download them separately as downloading them as a collection. And they're still going to need to look at every single variation, or there's the potential for having versions of the theme they'll never use because of a backdrop they don't like or whatever.

Collections, honestly, just increase the likelihood of the user ending up with clutter on their player.

That would mean adding an entire system of users and logins etc. There's precious little need for it. Is it really that hard to click on a link in an email?

it's not hard, it's just annoying if you have to do 15 times.

True, but that should only be now. Next time you're presumably not going to have to upload all themes you ever made

For now, you could upload the new version and tell an admin to delete the old one. In the future, there will be a way to update a theme you've uploaded.
