Some zip utilities don't seem to like folders that begin with a period "."

Don't know if I did some thing stupid or if this is a well known thing, but I just had some trouble manually installing Rockbox using Izarc. When I extracted the zip to the player, it removed the period from the beginning of the folder name so from .rockbox to rockbox. Then of course the bootloader couldn't start and it took a little while to figure out why. Then when I extracted .rockbox with the inbuilt windows zip utility and copied that onto my ipod, windows couldn't distinguish between the two folders, the .rockbox and the rockbox... very strange. I tried to delete everything and start again and now rockbox seems to be working fine but I hope I haven't got some orphaned undeleteable folders lurking about. Anyway just a heads up if this isn't that common and someone else gets the same problem.

I think it's pretty well-known.  Windows Explorer doesn't seem to like leading periods (it's fine with an existing folder/file with one, but doesn't let you rename to have one), so I imagine some ZIP utility people thought they'd be smart and just strip the period off for you so you don't get confused later.  Command Prompt is fine with leading periods.  My favourite file archiver for Windows, 7-zip, is fine with them.

Why not just use Rockbox Utility to install if you're having problems with the manual install?
