How to hide menu items/theme suggestion

(1/1)

GibsonSGking:
I have recently installed rockbox on my younger brothers ipod. It is an ipod 3g, therefore doesn't have the greatest screen on it. I noticed that he frequently gets lost in the menus, as he isn't very proficient in reading yet. Is there any way that I can hide menu items that he will not use, like the file viewer and system options? Also, does anybody know of a theme that replicates the original firmware? Thanks!  ;D

Chronon:
Customizable menus are considered a No-Do.  You would have to edit the source code and compile your own to change the main menu entries.  You can change which files show up in the file browser via the "Show Files" setting.  Whatever themes are available are listed in the WPS gallery.  You can find this by following the "extras" link in the sidebar.

If you use a theme with menu icons this may help him to avoid certain entries in the main menu.  My daughter has used Rockbox for a couple of years and didn't have too much problem with navigation after a bit of practice -- even before she could read proficiently.  She learned where the games were and where to find music and just stayed out of the settings, system, etc. menus.

OK, so I can't hide menu items (unless I make my own firmware  ::) ) and as far as themes go I'm on my own. Thanks for the help, I guess he'll just have to get used to it. Rockbox is seriously a kick ass firmware though, I am very impressed with it, especially the things plug ins can do. I never knew that the ipod had that much horsepower in terms of gaming, and I'm finding that I'm starting to use my ipod more then my psp due to its size  :D

No, unless you do a small amount of code editing

No, other people have already made others that you can chose from, or there is plenty of documentation available to help you make your own.
