Photo and Color iPod LCD sleep

I just uploaded a patch which implements LCD sleep on Photo and Color iPods.  It saves power by shutting down the LCD after a timeout.  It also properly shuts down the LCD when shutting down the iPod.  For more info see:

It concerns me that I'm releasing a patch which I'm not able to test on the actual hardware.  If this goes well, I'll add support for the Nano.

This facility is now available in the standard build for the 5g iPod so I presumed it was availble for all supported players.

What needs to be done to put the LCD to sleep and to wake the LCD depends on the particular device and LCD panel.  Not all targets have code for this.

Fair enough. I thought it was a general feature across all the ipods.

LCD controllers were one of the more dramatic changes between models.

I am surprised that there is so few response to this thread and the patch itself. The battery savings should be significant.
