How to start over with e280
BuffaloBooker:
I recently picked up a Sansa e280. Heard that Rockbox is better than standard software. Tried it, but I am having some issues.
Here is the problem.
I used iTunes to modify all the musics Title, Artist, Genre and then copied and pasted all the music into a folder on my desktop. Then I plugged in the e280 and simply copy and pasted all the music from the desktop to the player's "music" folder.
They all showed up great at first.
After a while it seemed to take forever to load up then it would freeze if I skipped ahead a few songs so I now would like to reboot/reformat and start from scratch.
I plugged the e280 to the PC and selected all the music and deleted it. now when i start up the player all the music is still there, but does not show up on the PC..
HELP ME PLZ....love the player....just want it to work...
and more info needed please let me kno..
Thanks
BB

Hi. You didn't mention whether you are seeing the files in Rockbox's file browser or in the database. If it's the database then you need to choose Update Now to manually get the database to refresh itself or else choose both Directory Cache and Auto Update and Rockbox should track changes to the files.
Please also tell us which version (or revision) of Rockbox you're using.

Now I am not an expert on Rockbox, but have used e280 for a couple of years. About a year ago I installed a previous version of Rockbox. I was a little dissapointed, removed everything using format in explorer, then using Sansa firmware updater to get orginal firmware back. Now I have tried version 3.2 and what a pleasant surprise..... :D. This times Rockbox really rules. First, orginal firmware do not support extra miniSD very well. Now I just installed an extra 8 gb miniSD HC card. Note that I have a Version 01.xx.xxx player. I runs perfect and the database updates perfectly. Many skins to chose from. The best is the plugin MP4 player.
Thank you so much to the development team. You have really made improvements. My contribution from palpay is on its way.
Just a tip: The Sansa player has to modes for USB. Both MTP and MSC. The player must be in MSC when tranfering files to player. Also note that as Rockbox don't support USB tranfer, they use orginal firmware support during tranfer. This means that if you have a mini SD card larger than 2 gB, you should use a separat card reader to tranfer you music or MP4 files using explorer in windows. Mine run on 8 Gb, but I probablly would also support 16 gB card.
A second tip: You may format the e280 when getting in to trouble. The firmware is safely located in a separatly. Of course, you lose all your files and file structure, and playlist - but as an final sollution it may work also for you.
BruceHP:
Make sure you disconnect your player and restart it, make sure it is not in MTP mode. Then you might want to run Chkdsk and the Rockbox app called (Oh no, I can't remember) Disktidt/Tidydisk.
As to version 3.2, well, for the Sansa player, I much prefer the Current Build which does have USB support. Turn on the player Before plugging it in.

This bit sounds like possible filesystem corruption. You should probably run a file system check like BruceHP suggested.
