Battery meter discrepancy between firmwares.
« on: March 19, 2009, 02:27:17 PM »
I am finding this rather odd. It seems there is a difference between the battery charge level reported from the apple firmware and within rockbox. I would fully charge my battery (and apple's firmware would show the icon indicating a full charge). Yet if I then boot into Rockbox, the charge percentage is only 87% (I have the iCatcher theme which shows the exact charge while playing a song). The battery icon at the top of the rockbox firmware is "full" though so is the percentage figure wrong or am I misreading it?

Which firmware should I trust? I currently have r20357 installed.

The battery meter works by reading the voltage from your battery and then looking up what percent discharge that corresponds to for a typical battery.  If your battery is old or atypical, the percentage may not be accurate.

I see. I guess in that case the apple firmware uses a different method to determine the battery's current charge. Thanks. I'll keep that in mind.

EDIT: I did a closer comparison and it seems that Rockbox's meter is 50% less than what apple's firmware shows (in other words) a 0% charged battery to rockbox is only half drained in reality.
