Three issues I have encountered. Can anyone help me?

djnforce9:
First off, I'd like to say that I'm a relatively new user of Rockbox and I am really enjoying it. Installation went very seamless for me and the configuration/initial setup very straightforward. However, there are a few issues I have encountered and I am unsure whether they have been resolved or already or can be fixed if I adjust my settings.

Anyhow, about my device:
- Apple iPod 4G/Photo Color (20GB version)
- I am currently using v3.1 of the RockBox firmware (the latest stable release as opposed to an svn)

So now that you know what hardware and firmware version I am using, here are the three issues I am currently having. I could not find information on these exact issues anywhere else but do pardon me if I missed a topic:

1. Many times after shutting down Rockbox, I will turn my ipod back on later only to be greeted with the "low battery" icon followed by a blank screen forcing me to hard reset. None of the buttons respond and the iPod will not enter disk mode when plugged into a PC. However, my ipod's battery still has plenty of charge in it because if I do hard reset (i.e. holding Select + Menu), Rockbox loads just fine and I can clearly see there is still plenty of charge left. This problem did NOT occur when I used the original apple firmware so I am certain nothing is wrong with the battery itself.

2. The LCD screen on the iPod is not cleared properly when I shut down rockbox. I see 1-2 horizontal lines remain on the screen (which do fade after a minute or so). Nothing is wrong with my IPod's LCD screen as I did not experience this with Apple's Firmware

3. I really like to have shuffle on all the time and I very much like how it displays the "next track". However, that feature seems to glitch out if I press the previous or next track button two or more times really quickly. I will either see a "?" for next track or the current track I'm playing will appear in next track even though another track will in fact play next.

Thank you in advance to whomever can help me with these three issues. If they are in fact known bugs and they've already been solved (even in a recent SVN), then all the better.

Llorean:
1) This is actually a problem with the original firmware. Since the original firmware usually simply "sleeps" and doesn't fully shut down, the odds of encountering it are significantly slimmer. Unfortunately, there's really nothing we can do about it, short of some volunteer choosing to write a sleep mode for Rockbox.

As for the other two, please see if you can repeat them in current builds. We don't really accept bug reports against release versions, especially when they're three months old and a variety of fixes and tweaks have been added since then.

Chronon:
1. This problem seems to occur on several models of iPods (I have seen it on the Nano and the 5g as well).  It's currently believed to involve some bug in Apple's bootloader since it has been reported by people running the stock firmware as well.  It would be seen much less frequently in those cases because the Apple firmware doesn't shut down the hardware, it only enters sleep mode.  Rockbox has to run the bootloader every time you start it.  It's not known whether or how Rockbox may affect the frequency with which this bug is encountered.

3. This seems to be a case of the buffering code getting confused.  It sounds just like this bug: http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/9558

Thank you kindly for your replies (both of you).

#1: That would make perfect sense since the problem occurs during the Apple bootloading phase before RockBox starts up. I actually didn't realize that the original firmware was affected just as much. You're right in that it will stay in sleep mode for several hours before actually shutting down (which wasn't exactly battery friendly either). Anyhow, at least I have a solution for it (i.e hard reset) and if that doesn't work then I know I legitimately need to re-charge the battery. In my opinion, it's unlikely that Apple would fix this since the update would put everyone's iPod's at risk of being bricked should they apply it incorrectly.

#2 & #3: I didn't mean it to be an actual bug report of course since I know you have a designated ticketing system for that. I just wanted to know if I did anything wrong settings wise. I will check the latest SVN for sure though :).

You're welcome.   :)

#1. Apple occasionally updates the bootloader code stored in flash ROM, but this issue seems to be a low priority for them since people don't have to use the bootloader much during normal operation.  Normally, your iPod has to sit for a couple of days in sleep mode before it enters "deep sleep".  I'm not sure of the distinction between this and powering down, but it appears to power on and run the bootloader again after this (the black and white Apple logo is displayed).
