iPod 5g 80 GB: can I save it?
« on: March 16, 2009, 10:22:48 AM »
So I was using RockBox for awhile, and while I liked its features I ultimately just decided to go back to the original firmware. I ended up deleting my .rockbox folder, for some reason thinking that was all I had to do, and when I started it up I got the File not found message. So I went to this site to get uninstallation instructions, but now I can't get my iPod to boot up at all to be recognized by the computer: it just displays the Apple logo, gives me the sick iPod face and tells me to contact iPod support. Then, it says Very Low Battery... please wait.  I waited for awhile, but it just restarts every couple minutes and does the same thing.

Is there any way I can fix this? I don't want to buy a new one now :(

The iPod FAQ has some tips on how to get it back:
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IpodFAQ

First, try getting it to start in to Apple firmware:

Once you get Apple firmware running, then you should be able to connect it to your computer, and have iTunes recognize it. You cna then use iTunes to restore/reformat it. Make sure that everything on your iPod is backed up somewhere else first.

Try charging from FireWire, a FireWire charger or a USB charger that is designed for iPods.
