Wanting to donate a 3rd Gen Nano to the cause...
Light Engine:
Hello,
I am the owner of a 3rd Generation iPod Nano. I wanted to be able to use the bloody thing on Ubuntu, but unfortunately, it won't do anything unless it shakes hands with iTunes, which we all know isn't on Ubuntu. So I got an 8 GB Fuze and am wondering what to do with this iPod.
Before I bought the Fuze, I wanted to see if Rockbox was an option, and realized that there is no version of Rockbox for 3rd gen Nanos, so i figured that I could maybe put one in the hands of someone who could crack that bad boy open and make something for all the other folks who need Rockbox for their 3rd gen Nanos.
I was wondering who was best on the Rockbox team to send it to.
I know this isn't exactly the right forum, but there didn't seem to be any particular place to place my query that seemed 100% right, so I put it here. My apologies to the mods if I made extra work for them!

You're welcome to donate hardware if you wish to, but that's not going to be a guarantee that a port will happen any time soon. Remember, developers are people, too, and have real lives to take care of outside of Rockbox hacking. If you do donate, remember that it may take quite some time before the port is completed, depending on how many people get in on one port.
With that said, I have a 2nd gen nano and was trying to see about getting a port of Rockbox started on it (once the firmware encryption is figured out, of course). I wouldn't mind taking a look at the 3rd gen nano, as it presents some interesting challanges and is a little different compared to the 2nd gen nano.
If you're interested, PM me and we'll work out the details.

I know that "I have a life outside my hobbies" thing all too well :) . Even if it takes time, it's still cool what you guys do here, especially considering you don't get very substantive compensation for your time.
Llorean:
If by "not very substantive" you mean "none" you'd be pretty accurate. ;)
Lambda would be a fair person to send it to. But to reiterate a warning - A port to that player may never happen. Even assuming an ideal world where he had infinite time to work on it, time doesn't guarantee we'll discover a good way to bypass the encryption on the devices. There are a few theories floating around, but nothing has worked effectively so far.

I imagine so. Apple stuff is generally made pretty well in that sense, from what I understand. I'm not an investor demanding results, just a person contributing to a cause in a (hopefully) meaningful and helpful way :). Whether the attempt to crack that thing succeeds or not is besides the point- you never know until you try, and you can't try if you don't have one to crack!
And really, I just want somebody to show that iPod who's boss. Even if Rockbox doesn't work out, at least I'll be happy knowing that somewhere my iPod is eviscerated on someone's table :D
