I've got a tough one for ya.... (e280r and e280)
« on: March 09, 2009, 09:56:52 PM »
Hello, I have gone through hours of trying to get my sansas to work and so finally i come here. I have two sansas, an e280 and an e280R. Both are refurbished and each has a different problem. The problem with the e280 is fairly simple; it works perfectly fine except that it is not recognized by the computer whatsoever, in any operating system or USB mode. Strange. As such, i can't install Rockbox on it, or even transfer files to it. At least it charges.

I'm posting here about the e280R, but it's a tough nut to crack. When i turned it on for the first time, it gave an error "unable to load image, restart" or something along those lines. I have put it in recovery mode and copied the .mi4 file and restarted it, only for it to give the same error (this is all before trying Rockbox). I figured, if i'm going to be replacing the firmware anyway, might as well put RB on it. The main problem seems to me to be that i can't set the USB mode to Rhapsody, and i think it needs to be in that mode to interface with the computer correctly.

I have made some headway, i was able to put it in manufacturing mode and install the manufacturing driver and even run the e200rpatcher, which worked successfully. The screen says to reboot and go on to Step 2. However, at this point, after it reboots, it just stays frozen on the SanDisk logo screen. I can manually shut it off by holding down the power button, and it even shuts off if "hold" is turned on, but it just won't go past the logo screen. Anyone have any ideas?

Try using e200rpatcher.

sorry, it was e200rpatcher, didnt look that closely

also, i misspoke on the USB mode - when it's in recovery mode, it says it is in "MSD" mode. In this mode, the 16MB recovery partition shows up. There is no way for me to set it to the "Rhapsody" mode to view it as a drive because it can't load the sansa firmware.

EDIT: i fixed the original post to fix these errors.
