iPod Mini 1st Gen: Battery problems
« on: March 09, 2009, 07:41:31 PM »
Hey all,

So, I have this iPod Mini here, and it has a new 750mAh battery installed. As in, seriously, brand new. Only been through a few cycles before.

Now, the problem is, it's got Rockbox on it, the latest build, everything works fine, except that it dies within a couple hours.

I've taken it apart, looked at all the connections, checked that it's not Rockbox being corrupted, ran Battery Bench on it a number of times. I can post it, if you want to see it.

But generally, according to the bench I have here, which is in two sessions, drains very very quickly. At some point, it has a C and U on the right. I am not sure what that means exactly, the TXT file doesn't explain them. However, when these show up, it is listed as 55% capacity, and then 9%. But then it goes up, which would indicate charging action.

Also, when 'dead' it really is. It will not charge through the wall adapter, even in disk mode. Only plugging it into a USB port in disk mode will charge it.

Is it time for a new logic board? This is the perfect size for my girlfriend to bring music around with her at work. And I am not sure if this is a battery problem, or something deeper. Any diagnostic actions I should be taking? Only time I can really run battery bench is when it's home, just sitting and playing, on the weekends.
