H140 Hangs on startup
(1/1)
seano:
Hi
I recently upgraded the hard drive of my H140 to the Toshiba 1214GAH 120gb hard drive and installed rockbox 3.1. All was working fine ( for about a week ) until this morning when trying to start, I can not progress beyond the boot loader start up screen..
Rockbox boot loader
Version 6
Batt: 4.13V
Loading firmware
Length: 62018
Checksum: IF3968F
Model Name : h120
Sum: 1FDE6AC
Result -5
I tried rebooting , but get the same result. I am not able to boot into the Iriver firmware. I haven't opened the player, but can still hear the disk spinning so I assume it's not a hardware issue. I am not at home so I can't yet try to see if I can see the disk on my computer. Any advice?
Llorean:
One thing this definitely was not was a question about how to install Rockbox. Please don't post questions in the installation section just because it's the only one with the same name as your player.
This really does sound like a hardware issue if it happened without you updating your build, and affects both Rockbox and the original firmware.
dreamlayers:
Note how checksum differs from sum. Are those supposed to match? Also, "Length: 62018" seems short. Maybe data on disk got corrupted or some sectors are unreadable.
seano:
well, I've connected the player to the computer - it can see the files. I have also run chkdsk on the disk, but this has not solved the problem.
[edit] Aaah. I've opened the unit and tried it whilst open. It works! I suppose it to do with a kink in the ribbon connecting the hard drive to the adaptor ( Zif - IDE) . I will just have to be careful when reassembling.
[edit] Need further help I'm afraid. Whilst the player works whilst it i sopen I am getting the same problem when putting it together. i have applied masking tape in all the areas where the drive and the interface strip meets but no joy. It would appear the error occurs whenever pressure is applied to the adapter. Any advice especially from those who as migrated to a zif drive? I would hate to replace the player, even though the Archos 5 is looking tempting!!
