Is the new usb stack meant for charging?
(1/1)
crescentfresh:
I've seen a few people mention that on various different targets, the new usb stack does not appear to actually charge your player. In the threads I've seen these comments, there have been no responses to them. I am experiencing the same thing on all daily builds for my 60 gig ipod color since the stack has been implemented. I thought maybe the battery meter's accuracy had simply gotten worse, but when I switched into the ipod's original firmware, it was also reporting the battery was completely drained after it had been docked and charging for multiple hours. Should we be able to charge with this new usb stack, or will we need to charge under the original firmware?
dreamlayers:
The USB stack deals with data transfer. Charging over USB is a separate issue. See: http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/8802
I think Apple code in flash will enable USB charging if it detects a supported USB charger at startup. (A computer USB port won't work. Chargers are detected by measuring voltage on the USB data lines. There is information online on this.) After that, Rockbox won't do anything to disable USB charging, so you can probably unplug the charger, connect to a USB port and charge from that.
scharkalvin:
If you want to build a home brew iPod USB charger you want to pull
each of the two data lines up to +5 volts with a 75K ohm resistor, and also
pull down each data line to ground with a 50K ohm resistor (need 4 resistors total).
This is the standard termination of the USB Apple USB data lines for charging
(omit the resistors in any computer USB connection!).

I'm just looking to charge it while it's plugged into my computer, which I used to be able to do until the usb stack was implemented. I have no issues powering up to apple's firmware to charge though.
