Problems During Installation With The Rockbox Utility
« on: March 03, 2009, 06:16:59 AM »
I'm sorry if it's already somewhere in this forum, but i didn't find it,

When i want to install rockbox on my Ipod 5Th gen 30 GB with the Rockbox Utility, It wont get access to my Ipod.

I get this Message in the Progress report:

No Ipod Detected, Permission for disc access denied!,

While it says right above under the term Device:
Selected devices Apple Ipod Video (5Th gen) 30 GB on E:\

Now I'm wondering how i can solve this problem

Hopefully you understand my problem though my English isn't very well, if don't understand i would try to explain it more clearly if possible.

Greetings, Steffan

P.s.
I've got a screenshot attached.

And you are running Rockbox Utility with admin rights?

If Rockbox Utility is giving you problems, you can try the manual install method. The manual will guide you through the steps.

No real ideas from me, but here is my experience:
I'm running Windows XP SP2, user is part of the local administrator group, iTunes is not installed on the machine.
First I used the Rockbox Utility. Didn't autodetect, so I manually specified it was a 30GB iPod video (5.5G) at e:\. Worked like a charm. Then when I went to installed a current version, unzipped the files to the iPod, and no problems.
    Have to ask:
- Did you enable disk mode for the iPod in iTunes?
- Are you _certain_ all Apple & iPod processes are dead (not running)?
- Any other media player app that is watching & grabbing the iPod?

Try uninstalling iTunes, then install Rockbox; or install Rockbox from a PC without iTunes... But I'm betting you did not enable disk mode.

Also, use the current version of Rockbox, not Stable v3.1 from the Utility. Especially if you have accessories for your iPod. Apparently the iPod Acc. Protocol is not implemented in v 3.1

I'm not sure what you mean with the disk mode.... However i had it in the normal mode?  8)

Thanks to woyciesjes i did find the solution, it appears Itunes was running on the background. so when i deleted it from the Task Manager it did work and Rockbox is running smoothly...

Thanks to all!

The Disk Mode I was referring to is seen in iTunes. When iTunes is open, and the iPod connected; click onthe icon for the iPod in the left hand column. There is t gives you info about the device. Towards the bottom of the screen there are a couple of option checkboxes. One of them is "Enable disk use". That is what I was referring to, and it should be checked for this to work right.

I probably confused you by using the wrong words. Sorry...
