possible glitch?
« on: March 02, 2009, 07:36:46 PM »
sansa e280 v1
march 01/09 build of rockbox = 20136

the player shut down and locked up (read bricked) had to recovery mode the unit TWICE first thought it was a cold/low battery but after charging and playing.... it repeated and I had to recover it again... I'm noticing that the database goes to commit each boot up now???

I play it then pause or stop, then it bricks.  any idea?

more later...

the player shut down and locked up
Rockbox actually properly shut itself down, or the player just turned off suddenly?

(read bricked)
No, it obviously wasn't bricked, since you were able to get it working again.  "Bricked" means it's broken beyond all hope of working again.

Maybe just a side effect of not shutting down properly.

Does this happen every time you attempt to pause or stop, or are you just noting that most of the time it's happened, you'd just paused or stopped?

and is the player unresponsive to a long (30+ second) hold of the Power button?
Also - if this is reproduceable, please install version 3.1 and see if you can reproduce there.

the latter... I've pause it, or stopped it, for less than the idle time out... and when I've gone back to the unit, its unresponsive, appears to be completely without power....

I'm going to copy over a new build... and try to see what happens.

3.1 is NOT "all builds since 3.1 came out." 3.1 is JUST the 3.1 build. All later ones are just SVN builds.

Are you asking or telling?  3.1 is the build that you download from the "releases" link.  The "current build" link takes you to the most recent build based on the code in SVN.  Try with both 3.1 and also a fresh current build and see if you still have problems.  If 3.1 is still "glitchy" then this indicates some problem with your player.

ok, oops... and thanks, i wasn't aware of the versioning... (thanks to all for telling me and sorting that out! I see how it works now...)

anyhow, so I've tried a fresh build ...and so far, so good.... no repeat of the glitchy behaviour...

btw, hats off to the team of awesome programmers and folks working on Rockbox AND responding to questions and bug reports.... ... please please please keep up the great work

(makes me wish I knew how to program something useful ....)
