Repeat song
« on: March 02, 2009, 02:51:27 PM »
I had a song set to repeat but when I want to go to next song (by pressing the next/skip key) it won't go to the next song.  Instead it started with the same song from the beginning.  I have to turn off the repeat mode to be able to skip to the next song.
Any help would be appreciated.
I had the sensa c250.

I'm pretty sure the point of enabling the "Repeat One" option is to have only 1 song play over and over again (both automatically and when you press the advance track button). Turning off repeat mode is the way to move to the next song in your playlist...so it sounds to me like everything is working as designed and you're doing exactly what you need to do to get the functionality you desire. Having 1 song play repeatedly until you press the advance track button defies the whole "Repeat One" concept.

Nope, on my other mp3 when you have it set to repeat 1 so you can repeat that one song but if you want to skip to the next song you can and it will repeat the next song and so on.  Sometime it work sometime it doesn't so I think this is a bug.

Repeat One is set up to always repeat the same song. If pressing "next" sometimes goes to the next song, it's a bug when it goes to the next song, not a bug when it doesn't.

Every mp3 player, including the original sensa software even the one on your computer, jetaudio, winamp, media player for example work like this...if you set to repeat one it will repeat the song over and over but if you want to skip to the next song you could and it will repeat the next song. That is what the skip/next button is there for.
I mean sometime I want to repeat a song a couple of time but not all the time so it is nice to hit the next/skip button until I find another song that I want to repeat, instead of go back to the setting and turn the repeat mode off and on.
You can try it on some other mp3 player and you will see what I mean.

That doesn't make it a bug. That makes your desire for a different behaviour a feature request.

I never said other players don't do it that way, so I don't get why you went on that whole rant.

I don't see any posts in this thread that claim other software do it the same way Rockbox does.

That's not what I said.
I said rockbox worked in the opposite way compare to other player (on the repeat one feature) but ppl are saying rockbox is not.

Ok this is how other player work (with original software)- when you set to repeat one it will repeat the song over and over and if you want to go to the next song you simply press the next/skip button. It will go to the next song and repeat that song.

This is how rockbox work- when you set it to repeat one it will repeat the song over and over but you can not skip to the next song using the next/skip button.  To skip to the next song you have to go back to setting and turn off the repeat one mode. And when you go to the next song and you want to repeat that song you have to go back to setting and turned on the repeat mode again.

If its not a bug the I don't know what it is to call it.
I'm not complaining, I just wish it would be more convenience for this mode to work same as other player does. Because that is how it supposed to work.

I don't think I can explain it any more clearly, and it's obvious you aren't understanding.

It's working the way it's designed to work in Rockbox. What other players do doesn't matter. It's not a bug, so the fact that you think it should work like other players is a feature request.

Nobody said other players do it wrong. Nobody said Rockbox is not different. All they said is that Rockbox is working how Rockbox is supposed to work.

As a note "Ppl" is not a word. The guidelines require you to use real English words where possible.

Well of course it is the way how rockbox worked and the way it is worked is not the normal operation.
And if I have to request a new feature then it should be the "repeat one" mode that rockbox has right now which is odd.

To make is a feature request, you'll need to create a thread in the "Feature Ideas" section of this forum with a clear and succinct description of the behavior you'd like to see happen.

This is not for feature requests - it is for ideas, where people can discuss an idea and the best way of implementing it.

Honestly, I don't think that a discussion of whether or not the >>| should advance to the next track when "Repeat One" is selected is a feature request or a feature idea.  Regardless, under our forum guidelines, it was perfectly appropriate to post this thread in the general forum.  We state:

Quote
If you are uncertain as to which post a forum belong in, it is best to choose the General forum. Nothing regarding Rockbox is strictly off topic there, and as well it is understandable that sometimes which forum to use can be unclear. Falling back to General helps prevent off-topic posting in most of the other boards, and the post can be moved if there is a more appropriate board.

Personally, I agree with rb4me that it would be better for the >>| to advance to the next track when "Repeat One" is selected.  With the current behavior, there is no way to advance to the next track without either entering the file browser and manually selecting the next track, or going into the settings to turn off "Repeat One."  At the same time, under the current behavior, the |<< and >>| buttons do the same thing.  If the >>| button advanced to the next track, no functionality would be lost because the |<< button would still return to the beginning of the current track.

I'm neutral on this issue since I don't usually use this repeat mode, myself.  I just want to point out that with the current state of things one could also view the current playlist from the WPS context menu.  This gives a way to select the next track in the playlist.  The quick screen may or may not give a way to toggle this setting quickly, depending on a user's setup.
