iPod 1st gen scroll whell does not respond in rockbox only

I'm also having this issue with my newly acquired/used 1G iPod and Rockbox Installer Utility with 3.14. I've downloaded the DFF patch but would prefer not suffering the learning process of compiling on Linux. I'm not a programmer and the last time I tried compiling MAME it went poorly and haven't tried again since. Please let me know if anyone has this compiled with a recent or old build.

Also worth mentioning is my battery is either shot or the meter isn't working. Thanks again all.
