Reading Books
« on: February 27, 2009, 08:40:36 AM »
I am having a really hard time figuring out how to read books on my ipod video. Having searched the forums I've seen mention of a text viewer that but I am unable to find it either in my rockbox build or anywhere on the website. Has it been replaced by the text editor? Are there any other plugins or viewers that would facilitate the reading of books? Thanks!

The test viewer (note the keyword "viewer"!) is launched by just selecting a text file in the file browser.

It's called "viewer".  All the plugins themselves are included in the Rockbox build (this excludes some secondary files which are actually necessary to usefully use a couple of the plugins, but are illegal or impractical to distribute with Rockbox, like Doom wads and Pacman roms).

If you don't have a .rockbox/rocks/viewers/viewer.rock file, something's gone wrong with the installation/extract.  If you just click on a .txt or .nfo file (or any other extension you add to .rockbox/viewers.config), it should open in the text viewer.

In addition, this is all covered in the manual.

you aren't very specific....i suppose you mean pdf files and lit files though cause that was what i want.  but from what i have read about pdf files and lit files, they wouldn't do so good on such a small screen and slow machine

Please don't resurrect 10 month old threads for no real reason.
