TOSHIBA Gigabeat T series firmware updater released.

(1/1)

eio:
hi everybody, this is my first post. ;D
I'm a junior C++/C 3D graphics developer, just purchased a Gigabeat T401S (japanese version, equivalent to MET400 in US, no WiFi). then i found this amazing world of rockbox...

ok, here is the real news:
toshiba has released a V1.2 update tool for their Gigabeat MET400 on 02/06/2009.
http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/content/support/downloads/gbt_update_1_2_us.exe
the updater is an executable zip package, its contents are:
/T2Update.exe   5,738,496
/FW/NK.bin   13,955,275
/FW/pmcboot_secure.bin   199,055
/FW/Recovery.bin   1,300,171
/FW/rf.ttc    14,551,040

there is also a unified updater for the japanese version of both T401(WiFi) and T401S(no-WiFi).
http://www.gigabeat.net/mobileav/download/module/gbt_update_1_2-1_3-2_2_jp.exe

hope this is helpful.

I'm also wondering what I can do to contribute the porting of rockbox to Gigabeat T series, although I have few experience in embeded development...any suggestions?

LambdaCalculus:
We already know that the Gigabeat T is almost entirely the same hardware as the Gigabeat S; the one big difference is the T is flash-based, while the S is hard-drive based. That being said, if you can find some kind of digital signature exploit on the Gigabeat T firmware (which IIRC is how we did it on the S), then Rockbox should be a snap to port to it, since all that would need to be done is just a new keymap and have it use flash instead of a hard drive.

saratoga:
Theres an updater for the Wifi version on the wiki already with a note saying it won't work on other models.  Is this updater any different?

LambdaCalculus:
The original poster says that this is for non-WiFi models.

(EDIT) The firmware updater has been linked to on the GigabeatTPort wiki page.
