good eq settings for e3c/scl3 shure headphones and sansa e250r
« on: February 24, 2009, 08:30:40 AM »
im trying to get a good setting for my shure scl3, for days ive been playing around with the sound, the best sound yet i could get is this guys preset

http://www.fixup.net/talk/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1769

the bass and treble sounded somewhat dull as it didnt say in the post if he adjusted the main preble or bass, but with the shure scl3's the treble at 20+db and the bass at +15db sounds pretty good, i get distortion at aound -8db

can anyone give me some good direction as to where to go form that preset

Listen to how it sounds, tweak it a little bit, then adjust it a little further?

Since it's all about "what sounds good to you", nobody can really tell you in advance what's going to sound good to your ears, since you'll have different opinions about what sounds good than they do.

It's part of the Crossfeed option. Rockbox's settings are described in the manual.

LS: 7.5 db 30hz 3.5 Q
PK: .1 db 220hz 4.5Q
PK: 6.4 db 2500hz 3.0Q
PK: 1.4 db 7500hz 3.1Q
HS: 6.0 db 18,010hz 3.0Q

on the said settings above , how do i adjust 30hz/220hz/2500hz/7500hz/18,010hz's Q?
on the rockbox options i have it list's 60hz/200hz/800hz/4000hz/12000hz on Q is that the same thing?

i would also like to try this guys preset however the post i found when searing google was from 96 so the rockbox versions have changed but it goes like:

Bass: 16
Treble: 0

eq enabled: on
eq precut: 0
eq band 0 cutoff: 60
eq band 0 q: 7
eq band 0 gain: 0
eq band 1 cutoff: 200
eq band 1 q: 11
eq band 1 gain: 0
eq band 2 cutoff: 2500
eq band 2 q: 50
eq band 2 gain: -125
eq band 3 cutoff: 5500
eq band 3 q: 40
eq band 3 gain: -75
eq band 4 cutoff: 8500
eq band 4 q: 50
eq band 4 gain: 20

but im not sure how to impliment those settings into the current version of rockbox becuase im not sure what band im inserting what gain/cutoff/q into becuase it doesnt seem very specific

scroll down to "Plotting RB-J Equalisers In Excel" and download the rbj_eq.xls spreadsheet which will help you visualise EQ changes.

1 - If I'm reading that right, you should really drop the .1 db peaking filter - that is a waste of CPU.  Nobody can hear that subtle of a change.
The 1.4 db peaking filter is likely inaudible as well.  No promises on that one, but very likely inaudible.
Shaving those two filters out will save a ton of CPU time and therefore battery life.

2 - Remember, what is visible on a pretty chart != what is audible.

3 - Set the EQ precut at least to the (inverse) level of your highest boost.  You sacrifice a bit of SNR to prevent clipping/distortion.
