Rockbox and Itunes - can they co-exist? *resolved*
« on: February 24, 2009, 08:26:58 AM »
Since installing rockbox, Itunes is unable to sync with my ipod video.  I get an error message: "Itunes is unable to sync your ipod.  The required file is locked".  I am able to transfer files to my ipod, and refreshing the database in rockbox allows me to play the songs on the ipod, but I am unable to play the songs using the original firmware or use utilities such as idump.

While I hate Itunes to manage my music, occasionally I do need to use it to buy music.  Is there a way to "unlock" the required file so my player can fully function with itunes?

Thank you in advance!

Rockbox doesn't interfere with iTunes syncing. Whatever problem you're experiencing is one relating to iTunes and its associated files on the iPod (which Rockbox doesn't touch).

You should Google and research this problem as if Rockbox weren't present.

iTunes sells DRM-free music (so it's said), so you can still use those files with Rockbox.

If your music is DRM-infected, well... we can't help you there. Sorry.

So just to clarify, the presence of rockbox *should* not interfere with the proper operation of itunes, right?

Thanks for the quick response

Rockbox doesn't change any of the Apple files, and you're using the Apple operating system to transfer music. Rockbox isn't running at the time.

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, because the line you quoted answers the very same question you're asking again...

I transcribed the quote to make sure I understood it correctly.  I think I may have solved the problem.  I think that my ipod_control folder somehow got flagged "read-only".    I'm not getting the error message anymore, but it seems to be perpetually sync-ing.  Oh well, it's a step in the right direction.
