Guh, I see what my problem is.

The diagram in the wiki is the other gender.

Anybody know where they hid the line-out output caps in the F and S series, out of curiosity?

Alright, found more time to tinker with this today and i have a working line-out dongle - now that i understand that the diagram in the wiki is the connector on the gigabeat, not the connector on the cable.

The connector I'm using is salvaged from an E405 cable, and a bit longer in the body than most from the look of things. It turns out that with some of the plastic trimmed off, a nice little Kobiconn mini jack fits right in the thing. I know most people would prefer a cable, to a jack, but, I wanted to see if this would work at all, so i tried it. Works well, though it will need some glue to keep everything from being horribly damaged if the plug is yanked on hard.

Oh, by the way, this doesn't work on the S, so either there's some software configuration of the codec that isn't happening, or the partial pinout of the S series dock connector in the wiki is wrong, or something else is missing.
