f20 line out
a19als:
who know about f20 line out connecter( not dock)? where can i get it? Thanks!
Chronon:
I would make a cable that has a dock connector on one end and a stereo plug or RCA plugs on the other end. If you're after the pin assignment in the dock connector, you can find it in our wiki: http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/ToshibaGigabeatFXPortPins#Dock_connector
This is the only way to access line out on the Gigabeat F20.

A better question at this juncture is actually whether coupling capacitors are required.
I've purchased some e405 cables (cheaper than buying the connector alone) - the ones i got are simpler than the one pictured in the wiki because it doesn't have a pc board - just wires soldered to the pins sticking out the back of the connector.
This means that there's room in the handle for a small kobiconn 3.5mm jack and potentially a pair of high quality 10uf caps, if they're needed.
I realize that i could test this out for myself, but i'm curious if anyone has ever actually built one of these. That and I've pretty much exhausted my free hacking time for the weekend.
Also interesting that the F and S series apparently have at least the line-out pins in the same place.
And I'm curious whether the line-out is enabled all the time or not. Apparently on the Zune 30 (a direct descendant of the gigabeat S) the line-out is disabled by default, much to the consternation of people who've tried to build diy line-out docks for them. But that could be a software issue.
EDIT - because i can't reply
Alright, I built a simple LOD connecting pins 5, 6, and 7 on the dock connector to a mini jack, 5 and 6 through 10uf caps just in case.
This DOES NOT WORK. I hear mostly silence, a little bit of noise if i turn my headphone amp way up. nothing like music.
Assuming the pinout is correct, this leads me back to my question of whether some features the dock connector has to be turned on, perhaps by pulling pin 17 ("option detect") high or low. Or possibly 27 ("main detect"). Or maybe something else entirely.
I'm mostly in the dark here. Surely someone else has investigated the factory F series dock in some detail?

Well there is that switch on the dock that comes with the gigabeat that selects between USB and lineout. Maybe that needs to be in the circuit, but I think the switch was mostly to disconnect the USB as the player wouldn't run while connected to the PC (that way you didn't have to disconnect cables from the dock to use it for both purposes).
ej0rge:
iirc the switch on my F series dock doesn't affect the line-out.
I'm starting to think maybe i need to connect pin 36 (ground from dock) to ground.
