e280r problem
« on: February 20, 2009, 04:38:25 PM »
I've got it mostly installed, I'm up to step 2, but I have a problem.
Copy pp5022.mi4 to the root of your device
Copy OF.mi4 to the system folder within your device (make sure you have set Windows to "Show hidden files")
I'm this far, I copied pp5022 into my root, but I can't get my e280 to get detected, so I can't get the OF in. Is there anything I can do?

How did you get the pp5022.mi4 file onto your device if it isn't detected?

Ah.  So the Rockbox bootloader is on there but can't boot the OF.mi4 since it's not on there yet.  You will need to restore the original firmware using the recovery mode, boot the original firmware, then repeat the "Step 2" instructions again -- i.e. put the PP5022.mi4 and OF.mi4 in the correct locations.

How do I get to recovery mood? And when I was getting the files on, I couldn't find the system folder, yet I did everything else right, this is really stressing me out and I'll try anything to get it back and working. :P

Read this page: http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/SansaE200Unbrick

Only do the part that involves "Restoring the original firmware"

Regarding not being able to see the System folder, I think you also need to uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" to make it appear.  I'll make this explicit in the instructions if it isn't already.

Just to be clear, I set it to recovery mode, then just do the step for resetting the firmware? I also don't know where to uncheck the hide protected files, it wasn't very detailed in the instructions. Thanks for the help so far, I really hope I can get this right.

Yes.  That's right.

The option to "Hide protected operating system files" is also in the folder options module in the control panel.  Check carefully in the "Hidden files and folders section" and you should see it.

I've got it in recovery mode, but which firmware do I pick? I see Sansa e200, but also Sansa e250r, I'm not really sure which one to pick, because I have a e280r. :P

Use the e250r one.  All e2x0r players use the same firmware.

I got it back to normal, such a relief. :D I'll still try and get Rockbox, but I'll be more careful and take it slow, thank you SO much for all the help, I was really worried. ;D

Edit: I got RockBox working, and it's really great. Thanks a lot for helping me Chronon, I really appreciate it. :D
