Negative bass & treble
Mr Whippy:
^ No bass boost on loudness is useful since at lower volumes the drivers may not have a suitable bass levels. If you boost treble then what you're literally doing is increasing volume.
For example listen to rock at a lower level and it seems thin, ramp it up and bass drivers start to give some kick.
Llorean:
Did you read the wikipedia article he linked? Even just looking at the picture should demonstrate that what he mentioned isn't simply increasing the volume, since the midrange is not boosted.
Mr Whippy:
I would not like loudness that increases bass & treble. I've got loudness function on my seperates, I've played with it plus treble. Bass boosting as volume is lowered works better IMO.
Llorean:
That's just your own ears, though. We should choose the standardized curve rather than writing the feature to meet a single user's personal preference.
If you want a Rockbox build customized to what you prefer, you can always build it yourself.
Mr Whippy:
Actually the bass boost loudness feature is quite common, and not just to "my request"
