compiling out the unwanted stuff?
« on: February 20, 2009, 03:24:52 AM »
I want to compile my own Rockbox without the games and apps and such. Is this an easy task? Or should I just delete all this stuff after I copy the .rockbox directory over to my ipod?

I tried searching it out but I must be using the incorrect terms.

Thanks

apps/plugins/SOURCES and apps/plugins/SUBDIRS control which plugins are built, so just remove them there and recompile.

As far as I know, you'll get the same result by just deleting the .rock files from an official build.

True, but its more fun this way. By editing the appropriate files I have reduced the size of the build. That is not so important for my 60/80GB video, but on the 4gb nano, space is a commodity.

Deleting the .rock files also reduces the size of the build, in the exact same way.

Perhaps, but have you actually thought about how much extra music you gain by removing the plugins? I'd be happy to read how many seconds that turned out to be, since I doubt they were many.
