Problem transferring music to e260
« on: February 19, 2009, 01:58:36 AM »
Hello,

I have a e260 (not rhapsody). I loaded music on it in the original firmware. I then installed Rockbox. At first I could not see the Music folder either when connected to my pc or on the player. I found the Show Files menu and now can see the folder on the player but still cannot see the Music folder when connected to my pc. So consequently I cannot remove or add music files to the player. Otherwise everything works fine. Is the problem the mode that the player is in MSC/USB? Is there a setting on Rockbox to change modes? I've been looking in the manual and the forum but no luck. Thanks.

You don't need to put music in the music folder.

As well, it's a hidden folder. You just need to set your file browser to show hidden files and folders. Google can help you with this.

Thanks you for the reply. How and where do I either remove music files or add them to the player?

You can put them anywhere you'd like on the player. You don't need to do anything special, just copy them onto it.

Ok...I changed the view to show hidden files and folders and I see the Music folder now. Thank you for that. But what do you mean when you say 'you don't need to put music in the music folder'. Where else would I put them?

Anywhere you want.  Make a folder called My Stuff if you want.  Or Audio.  Or Fish.  It doesn't matter at all.  Rockbox doesn't force you to conform to it like all too many original firmwares do

Thanks all. I see what you mean but since I originally put them in the Music folder I first had to figure out how to find that folder so I could remove files. Now that you helped me with that I'm good to go and realize I can put them anywhere.

While trying to figure this out I did come up with another issue though. I was trying to boot into the original firmware to change modes but can't seem to do it. I hold the left button while powering on and I see a screen that says 'classic' for like a half a second but the player always boots to the Rockbox firmware. I don't really have to worry about it now that I've got things worked out but for the future I would like to know why I can't seem to boot into the original firmware or if I am doing it correctly.

Make sure that the player is off. Press the power button and then hold down "left" (marked as |<< on the player itself) and the bootloader (black screen and white text) should tell you that you've chosen to load the OF.

Release Left once the screen clears and it should boot the OF.

Let us know if this works, or if not, what happens instead.
