Chronon:
Stop.  If you aren't careful with recovery mode you can get your player into a much less functional state.  I didn't tell you to do that and there are no instructions that tell you to do this.

From this point do the following steps.

1) Enter recovery mode and put only the original firmware file onto the player.
2) Follow these instructions carefully.

mooses9:
you were right, i had them mixed up, i loaded the OF factory firmware onto it, switched the files around like you said and it worked perfectly, man i spent hours last night trying to find out what the deal was.

i have a question about settings, is there a way i can not have the song stop when i want to go to sound settings so i can adjust the settings while the music is playing? is there a crossfade or something going on there?

Chronon:
It sounds like you're pressing Power/Menu instead of Submenu.  As is mentioned in the manual, the Submenu button is used to enter the main menu in Rockbox.  The Power/Menu button behaves as a stop button.

Now that you have successfully installed Rockbox you can ask any additional questions in the appropriate forum.  Welcome.   :)
