Accessories for the Rockbox Player?

So when the rockbox player is ready, and the usb implementation is complete, is it likely that there will also be open source accessories for it, made by the RB dev team? if not, will it be easy to communicate with home-made accessories over usb, allowing people from the community to create accessories, much like the plugins?

I see potential for great things =]

USB serial already works, so in theory you could design accessories that communicate via serial now. Or simply design ones that use the iPod accessory protocol if your target of interest is an iPod.

Except there aren't any main devs working on that, and certainly to me it doesn't look like anything I'd want to buy in it current incarnation.  It isn't an "official" project.
