When I try to play music I get "codec failure"
« on: February 13, 2009, 02:02:06 PM »
Thanks in advance.
When I try to play music I get the statement codec failure.  I am trying to play mp3 and wma files.  Does anyone know what gives?

Also, I created the doom folder and two files appeared in the folder.  Also a folder appeared as well.
I do not recall inserting the files.

# .cfg f.ile                which says it is 1.8 GB which is impossible
x.org                        which says it is 0 mb
19569-08.122          is a folder. When I try to remove this file it states the file is corrupted or unreadable.

Neither of the files can be deleted for the folder it states cannot read from source file or disk.
When Insert the doom wads they will not save.  Every time I try to run the game it states it is missing the wad.  I check and of course it is gone again.

Any ideas Thanks
James D

It sounds like your file system is corrupted.  Run a disk checking utility to try to repair errors then install a fresh build.

The disk check fixed the file problems.  I can now play doom.  Thank you Chronon

I however still get the codec failure message when trying to play music.

Usually that means your codecs folder is corrupted.  Try reinstalling.
