Play single track
« on: February 13, 2009, 03:29:49 AM »
Just wondering whether you can play just a single track with Rockbox. I use an iriver H340.
I play in a band and would like to use it to play backing tracks but it has to stop at the end of the song or I'll look very silly indeed.

cheers,

Aadam

a one item playlist would accomplish that.

Exactly.  With playback stopped, navigate to the song you want to play, press and hold the select button, and select one of the playlist options (insert, queue, etc.) to create the playlist.

Yes, this works, but it takes 4 button presses and some attention.  I teach dancing and usually play just a single song before I give the next explanation.  I do this about 20 times per lesson, so the solution offered is not practical.  Thus, it would be great for me to have a setting where each song I start is played to its end but without skipping to the next one.  The skip forward button should then start playing the next song (not the same one). Couldn't one add a 'Repeat' setting that could be named 'Stop' that makes sure to stop after each track. I think this would be a useful feature and not more unusual than the A-B repeat setting.

Sounds great! Make sure to submit a patch once you've coded this feature.

Consider placing the desired tracks individually separate folders.

Or if you prefer to use database: tag the files separately,

for instance: Set all desired track to Album Artist: dance rehearsal then make the album tag unique to each file, Dance 1; Dance 2; etc.

so that they the playlist generator only has one track to add upon playback.

wait, doesn't the h340 have a quick button or shortcut button or something?

I have an h120 and the record button can be configured to "Insert to playlist"

Simply browse to the track you wish to play and instead of pressing select, press record and it will insert that track all by itself in to a playlist and play it.

That's exactly what you are looking for, isn't it?

Thanks for the reply.  The solution does not sound very practical though for several reasons.

1) I have over 1000 songs for dancing and I want to decide on the fly which one to use depending on speed, rhythm etc.  Should I create a folder for each of them, or should I tag them individually?

2) It still takes 10 button presses or so to insert a song from the file listings to the short playlist.

3) I have organized my songs in playlists, not so much in folders. I don't see a way I can insert a song from one playlist to another and still have the first available. As far as I understand there is only one active playlist.

Josef.

Dude, refer the to last entry on this page:

http://download.rockbox.org/daily/manual/rockbox-iriverh300/rockbox-buildch8.html#x11-1520008.11

Configure the "hotKey" as "insert to playlist" [or whatever means the same thing.

Henceforth, while in broswer, pressing the "REC" button will add that file to the playlist.

It does not appear there is a problem here that you are making it out to be.

The hotkey does not seem to exist on SanDisk Sana Clip Zip, so that is no option, as far as I see.

I don't think the zip has enough buttons to have hotkey support.
